How We Review Lead Distribution Software
The same checklist, applied to every platform, so rankings are comparable and the reasons behind them are visible.
The five criteria
Every platform in our ranking is scored on five criteria. The weights reflect what changes revenue per lead for a lead seller or agency; a pure lead buyer would weigh quality controls higher.
Routing power (25%)
Ping-post, direct-post and ring-tree support, priorities, caps, filters and schedules, and whether your team can change them without a vendor ticket.
Revenue recovery (20%)
What happens when a buyer rejects a post: retries, fallback buyers, ring trees and aged lead paths, and whether they are automatic.
Profit visibility (20%)
Cost per lead by source next to revenue by buyer and campaign, after returns and credits, without exporting to a spreadsheet.
Lead quality controls (15%)
Phone and email validation, deduplication windows, suppression lists and consent records attached to each lead.
Operations (20%)
Time to set up, automation of billing and reporting, delivery options, API, data export, migration help and support responsiveness.
How we test
- Product walkthrough. We go through the platform's own documentation, product pages, demo material and, where a self-serve trial is available, the trial itself, with the same scenario in mind: three sources, five buyers with different caps and filters, one ping-post campaign with a fallback path.
- Routing scenario. We check how a lead moves from capture to delivery, what happens when the winning buyer rejects it, and how long a routing change takes to apply.
- Reporting check. We look for cost per lead by source next to revenue by buyer, and whether returns and credits are reflected without manual work.
- Operations check. Delivery methods, API and export, billing automation, and what onboarding and migration include.
- Reader feedback. When lead sellers, buyers or vendors write to us about a platform, we check the claim against the vendor's material and update the page if it holds.
What we never do
- Quote competitor prices. They change often and usually depend on a quote. We describe the pricing model and link to the vendor.
- Guess at capabilities. When we cannot confirm a feature from a vendor's own material, our comparison tables say "Ask vendor" rather than yes or no.
- Invent statistics. There are no made-up market numbers, customer counts or conversion rates on this site.
- Publish without a date. Every guide shows when it was published and last updated.
Why Vertikl is our top pick
Vertikl scores highest on the criteria above for lead sellers, brokers and pay-per-lead agencies: automatic fallback, profit by source, self-serve routing changes, published pricing and migration included in onboarding. This site is published by Vertikl, as stated on the about page, so we hold ourselves to two rules: each comparison page has a section on where the other platform fits better, and competitor capabilities we could not confirm are marked "Ask vendor" rather than scored against them.
Updates and corrections
Vendor pages are re-checked when a platform announces a significant change, and at least once a quarter. The 8 platforms currently covered are listed in the ranking. If you spot an error or an outdated statement, contact us through the about page and we will correct it and update the page date.
